The artwork is done in black and white to emphasized the stark lifeless quality of Cain's attempt to please God in his own way which is symbolized by the man-made altar.

This painting follow the mannerism of the traditional Icon artists in particular the stark golden background emphasizing the holy ascent intended. The 'crown of thorns' enveloping the body expresses my felt experience during the period of recuperating from barricade treatment of my eyes due to retinal breaks. The rainbow sign of the Noahic Covenant which is constantly featured in my art is again present beneath the golden background, the pupil and among the thorns. a reminder of Christ's compassion and fellowship with his beloved.[Isaiah 53] ... It is not the pain that is bearable but the companionship that bears the pain.
